Modern Metallics Wedding in Downtown Washington DC

Crisp and modern, today’s wedding from Abby Jiu Photography is everything we’d expect from a contemporary affair in Washington, DC. Katie and Steve wanted their big day to pay tribute to DC’s history and beauty, while also staying true to their own personalities — for example, the couple tasked their ceremony musicians with playing string versions of their favorite Kanye West songs. From the event designer, Elizabeth Duncan Events: Katie and Steve both grew up in the DC area and wanted a wedding venue that would highlight DC’s history and grandeur, while being contemporary in design and not a typical wedding venue. The historic facade and rooftop of the American Pharmacist Association headquarters provided the perfect spot.

Inspired by summers spent on Kiawah Island, SC, Katie and Steve wanted a southern style cocktail reception featuring a selection of all of their favorite foods from the mid-Atlantic and Southern regions. The wedding design featured mixed metallics, with a focus on rose gold like Katie’s stunning engagement ring, modern geometric shapes and bright berry toned blooms, set against moody, dramatic black. In another unique twist, Katie and Steve’s wedding ceremony music was their favorite Kanye West songs played by a traditional string quartet.
