Artist Inspired Wedding Ideas with Oxblood and Navy
Today’s styled shoot taps into the romance of art in all its forms, from still life paintings to floral design to fashion. The creative team of Abigail Bridges Photography and RSVP Events used a color palette including oxblood and navy, a perfect welcome into the cooler days of fall we’ve got right around the corner. Be sure to keep an eye out for the hand painted wedding cake with geometric accents — be still our hearts!
From the event designer, RSVP Events: This inspiration speaks to the artist. We really honed in on the spectrum of artists: poetry, still life paintings, illustration, calligraphy, fashion, watercolor, textiles, and floral design. We wanted to create a deep, moody palette with oxblood, navy, slate blue, copper, and greenery to evoke a romantic vibe with antique elements.
Working with so many artists on this vision was such a pleasure, and I loved getting to see it from their perspectives. The florist, for example, is also a painter, so asking him to create floral capturing the movement of still life paintings was so exciting. Adding in tono & co.‘s hand-dyed paletted ribbons to the bouquet spoke to artistic expression in textiles.
We felt the textured brick and hearths of The Cordelle set the tone for an antique, romantic feel. Claire Pettibone‘s Eden gown and Walton’s antique sapphire engagement ring added a hint of high-detail sophistication. We chose a still life painting tapestry as a backdrop for a bit of drama. Pablo Neruda’s Sonnet XVII calligraphed in copper was broken into six parts and placed on each place setting, and added to the RSVP envelopes for a hint of dark romance. The hand-drawn illustrations of the invitation suite and envelope liners tie in another layer of custom art.
