From Sam of Devil’s Thumb Ranch Resort & Spa:
Maggie and Austin both hail from the east coast and have made Colorado their home. Their life together is composed of two main ideas: enjoying cozy days at home loving, on their dog and cat, and getting outside to explore Colorado while hiking, rock climbing, camping and more. Their goal was to combine these two aspects of their lives while bringing all their loved ones together to show them their Colorado home. They wanted their wedding to be sophisticated while also being organic. They selected Devil’s Thumb Ranch for the ability to have guests stay on-site, spend time together outside with numerous activities and soak in luxury accommodations and dining in a relaxed setting. Guests enjoyed each other and celebrated Maggie and Austin in true Colorado fashion. They were treated to horseback rides, yoga and a morning-after hike with the couple.
In the wedding design, Maggie and Austin brought the outside in with their whimsical use of greenery and created a cozy atmosphere with warm candlelight. The color palette was simple and elegant, tying in the bright colors of summer with the tans and browns of a Colorado fall, as the October mountain wedding came at a time when the seasons meet one another.
The ultimate priority was being together with those they love and they incorporated into their families and close friends to their wedding details with subtle touches and family heirlooms. The shoes that Maggie wore during the ceremony have been worn by women in her family during their wedding ceremonies since the late 1800s. She also wore a ring from a great aunt and a necklace from Austin’s grandmother. The clutch she carried was handmade by Austin’s mother and incorporated pieces of the dresses and veils worn by Maggie’s mother as well as Austin’s mother and grandmother on their own wedding days. Austin carried a family money clip as well as a handkerchief given to him as a favor at the wedding of two of Maggie and Austin’s closest friends.
Maggie, Austin and their families also had a personal hand in many design elements of their wedding. They use their talents to create all stationery and signage and the cocktail napkins featured headshots of their pets. The ceramic aspen vase favors allowed guests to take a piece of Colorado home with them and were handmade by Austin’s mother.
