A Winding Flower Aisle Took Center Stage For This Texas Lake Wedding

Mimi & Alan. Wedding

Fresh petals in every shade of pink imaginable made their unforgettable debut in the winding flower aisle for Mimi and Alan’s February wedding on the water. This was the vision the bride had dreamt of since she was a child, and we’re giving her props for thinking big from the start! This was definitely a dream worth pursuing. Kiran and Leigh combated the environmental challenges of a winter wedding on the lake with grace + ease, bringing hot toddies into play when the guests needed it most! Teaming up with Bows and Arrows Flowers for all things blooming, these wedding pros nailed the romantic fairytale lake wedding directive like no one else could. Just wait til you see the epically lush floral ceiling dripping over the pink checkered dance floor. I mean…. Kelly Hornberger was there to capture it all, and we cannot wait for you to dive head first into this breathtakingly beautiful celebration where M+A said I Do.

Mimi and Alan are proof that blind dates do work! Mimi’s best friend set her up on a blind date with Alan for tapas and by the third date, Mimi knew it was meant to be. Alan proposed on a sweet Sunday afternoon, surprising his bride to be in their church’s courtyard.

Mimi’s dream wedding location had always been Lake McQueeney, so that was the first priority when they began planning their wedding day. They chose Valentine’s Day weekend and decided to embrace the pink for a romantic winter wedding. The ceremony was set on the dock, with a winding flower aisle leading up to the altar. For even more floral explosion, the pink checkered dance floor at the reception featured a huge installation of suspended flowers. After dancing under the delphiniums, the couple escaped into the night on a wooden vintage getaway boat.

How we met and got engaged
One of Mimi’s best friends insisted that she go on a blind date with Alan, so we met up for some wine and tapas. On the third date Mimi knew it was meant to be when she learned that Alan too could not use chopsticks while eating sushi!

Engagement Day
It was a typical Sunday morning for us. We met some friends at church, and were planning to “meet Alan’s mom for lunch and crawfish.” Little did Mimi know, Alan had other intentions. After struggling to shake free of our friends after the Sunday service, Alan wanted to venture through the outdoor prayer room and stone cross located in the courtyard. With a covert photographer set-up nearby Alan dropped to a knee in front of the cross, and asked Mimi to marry him. To keep the engagement a surprise only a select few knew – Mimi’s parents, brother & her future maid of honor, along with Alan’s brother in-law and diamond girl sister (she made the ring!). We then celebrated with our friends and families at our favorite Mexican restaurant!

What we were inspired by
Mimi always dreamed of getting married at the lake. We were limited to winter months, due to getting married at the venue of Mimi’s dreams, but this was okay. We knew that February could potentially be cold, but never would we have guessed it would be a record breaking freeze. From day one Alan knew he wanted a navy suit with a coral tie, so we ran with the color scheme of pink. Mimi saw a pink flower inspiration picture that she fell in love with. With a Valentine’s Day wedding weekend decided we may as well embrace all of the pink.

Favorite wedding day details
The old wooden Century getaway boat, hands down. We also loved the pink checkered dance floor with flowers hanging above it.

What we each wore
Alan wore a navy suit from The Black Tux and a raspberry tie from Vincent Ford Custom Apparel. From day one, Alan knew this was the look he wanted. Mimi wore a Carolina Herrera gown and simple vale from Casa de Novia Bridal and Rene Caovilla shoes. Mimi wore a pearl necklace that her grandmother wore at her wedding. Our wedding bands came from Lindsey Leigh Jewelry. Lindsey is Alan’s sister and she helped us to create unique bands for each of us.

Favorite memories
Mimi’s favorite memory is walking down the winding flower aisle, seeing the beautiful colors and pew on the dock, Alan’s tears of joy, and Alan’s excitement throughout the ceremony.

Alan’s favorite memory was the surprise private dance at the end of the ceremony. Mimi forgot to tell Alan that they would be doing a private dance at the end of the night. Mimi chose You Are The Best Thing for us to dance to. The dance was far from private, as every guest was watching, but it didn’t matter because it felt like we were the only two in the room.

We also decided last minute that we would be serving hottie toddy’s in order to warm everyone up after the outdoor ceremony in the frigid Texas temps! We loved this idea to keep our guests warm.

Advice for other couples
You always hear it, but never actually think it will happen to you; although, we are warning you to prepare yourself because things will go wrong. At the end of the day you are marrying the love of your life. Be sure to soak it all in because the best weekend of your life goes by in the blink of an eye.

There’s no doubt the winding flower aisle wedding aesthetic is here to stay. See another one of our favorite examples of this ceremony trend in this Palm Springs wedding next!
