Rustic Chic Los Cabos Wedding Berta

Today’s Los Cabos wedding forecast is rustic chic with a touch of glam. Naturally, we’re bracing ourselves for beauty in spades. And we feel prettyyyyy confident that the gallery from By Julieta will not disappoint. Mirirai and David’s destination fete was planned by none other than Amy Abbott Events, whose tasteful combinations of walnut colored furniture, funky lounge vignettes and dazzling string lights bridged the gap between two different style worlds quite seamlessly. It’s no question that Mirirai’s appreciation for monochromatic blooms added a sense of timeless romance to the celebration too. Floral Dreams by Vero Romo pulled off the look magnificently! Follow along with us to see two very happy hearts from Post I Do giggles to epic sparkler-lit salsa dance.

Now let’s hear from the Bride!

Q: How did you meet, and how long did you date before getting engaged?
A:
David and I met on Hinge in January 2019 and instantly knew that this could be something special. We lived five blocks from each other in downtown Chicago (I lived in the Gold Coast and he lived in River North) and agree we may never have met if it wasn’t for the dating app. I remember when I saw his genuine smile and kind eyes on Hinge, I hoped that we would be a match and we did! He didn’t waste any time and asked me to have dinner with him right away. We always say that we had two first dates in one night. The first date began at Somerset Restaurant at the Viceroy Hotel where we nervously greeted each other with few words to say and stars in our eyes. Then I took a leap of faith and asked him if he would be interested in having one more drink at a romantic candle lit Cuban bar called Sparrow right around the corner. That’s where the second half of the date began. We really connected and the rest is history!

Q: Who proposed? When and how?
A:
David proposed at the same location of our first date. We walked to Somerset Restaurant just a few blocks from my apartment. He got down on one knee and the rest is still a blur. I do remember feeling like the happiness girl in the world. After that, he took me to Next Restaurant for a beautiful dinner to celebrate. It was simply amazing!!

Q: How did you choose your wedding venue?
A:
Before I met David, I had a short list of places I had dreamt of getting married at. There was a place in Lake Como and there was Flora Farms. Flora Farms was the first venue on the list I was able to visit in person. David and I had just met when I was invited to a friend’s wedding there. I remember turning to my best friend and saying, “On drats! This is it! This is where I want to get married.” When David and I got engaged, I presented the idea to him and he was 100% on board.

Q: Did your wedding have a theme? If so, how did you choose it?
A:
For David and I, we wanted to create a one of a kind experience for our guests. I always remembered that people never forget how you make them feel. That was the driving factor in all of our wedding decisions… creating a unique, fun and memorable experience that made our guests feel amazing.

Q: How did you choose your table decor?
A:
Flora Farms is such a beautiful place and I wanted it to be the star. I tried to find pieces from the table linens to chairs that would complement the venue’s rustic and chic feel.

Q: What flowers did you use in the bouquet and at the venue?
A:
After digging through tons of bridal magazines and Instagram, I fell in love with Lily of the valley. Given all flowers have to be imported to Cabo, it was a tall order, but our wonderful florist made it happen!

Q: What color scheme did you choose and why?
A:
I selected earthy tones, ivory, taupe and green to blend into our magical location.

Q: What did you use as your escort cards and/or place cards?
A:
My wedding planner and I worked together on a few ideas and decided to have a gratitude wall with personalized notes to each guest. We wanted to thank each guest personally for making the trip to Cabo, even during a pandemic. I absolutely loved it.

Q: What were your wedding favors?
A:
We decided to make it all about food! Flora Farms is known for their amazing pizza, so we had an assortment of pizzas handed out at the end of the night.

Q: What was your biggest splurge of the day?
A:
The dress. definitely!! When David and I got engaged I knew immediately that I wanted to wear a Berta dress. I had always admired Berta’s one of a kind creation that make a woman look and feel her best. The best words I can use to describe the Berta bride is elegant, regal and refined. Being based in Chicago, I visited Ultimate Bride with a pretty good feeling I would find my Berta dress that day and I did! The magnificent dress I chose was actually the very first one I ever tried one.

Q: Please describe your favorite moments:
A: 1) My dad passed away from cancer six months before I met David. After his passing, I had made a personal commitment to try to work on myself and be the best person that I could be. Then David came along and since has made all of my dreams come true. My mom and friends have said they believe my dad (my guardian angel) brought David to me and I truly believe they’re right. So, the moment I was able to hold hands with my mom while she walked me down the aisle was one of the most special moments ever! I wanted her to know that this was her day too!

2) All of David’s friends know how much he hates to be hot. It was a beautifully sunny day but also unseasonably hot even for Cabo. David and I said our vows to each other both drenched from head to toe. During his best friends’ speech, he said, “I can confirm David is in love because he would have never stood out in this heat for anyone else”.

3) During the reception, we asked all of our family and friends to create two lines on the dance floor with sparklers. A lot of people knew that David moonlighted as a professional salsa dancer but most of our guests had never seen him move. Being able to dance together in the middle of our people to the song “Someone like you” by Snoh Aalegra is a moment I will never forget. David says his favorite moment of the wedding was seeing how happy my mom and I looked walking down the aisle together. We said we both have a very distinct way about us that we share when we’re both very happy.

Q: What did you learn from the experience?
A:
David and I learned that love and determination is stronger than anything. We got engaged at the beginning of the pandemic but were always on the same page when it came to the decision to move forward with our commitment to one another. We are so glad we did it! Our wedding celebration solidified the fact that as a team we can accomplish anything together.

Q: If you could sum up your wedding day in one sentence, how would you describe it?
A:
It was a magnificent moment in time for us and for our guests who said with everything going on in the world, 2020 felt like it started that night.
