Massachusetts Local Wedding Guide

It’s time for another installment of our Local Wedding Guide! We’re selecting various locations to highlight the numerous resources available from our vendor guide members and their tried-and-true recommendations. So far we’ve tackled North Carolina and Texas, and next up on the list is Massachusetts. Most vendors love to travel, so don’t fret if you’re not in their immediate area!

What is your favorite tip for couples for being photographed on their wedding day?
Geneve Rege: I tell brides to be themselves and try to be as natural as possible. I give some direction for couples but for the most part I want the photos to look genuine and not posed. I also tell them to have fun, it’s my job to find the flattering angles!

Tell us a little bit about you.
Geneve Rege: Wedding days can be a bit stressful so couples hire me because I am a laid back person and know my camera well so this allows me to be calm under pressure. I am unobtrusive on your wedding day, so I remain in the background as much as possible. Your wedding day is about enjoying the moments while its my job to capture those moments without interfering with those moments!
Ruth Eileen: I am a natural light photographer that will bring a personal touch and unique perspective to images you will cherish. I want to capture who you are as a couple and the love that brings you together!

Any favorite photo spots for engagement sessions or must see sightings?
Geneve Rege: I love all kinds of photo spots for engagement sessions from urban settings to country settings. I love shooting around the ICA museum in Boston but I also love when couples choose a more personal spot like a family farm. Being based in New England couples have a choice of seasons, I did an e-session in the middle of winter with the beautiful snow as a backdrop.
Meredith Perdue: While some of my favorite locations for engagement shoots are right in Boston (Boston Public Library, Beacon Hill, the Public Gardens, etc.), I love shooting outside of the city in slightly more natural environments. Plum Island & Maudslay State Park, located near Newburyport, are two of the most lovely settings for engagement shoots!

Boston, MA:

What is your favorite tip for couples for being photographed on their wedding day?
Lara Kimmerer: I highly suggest having a session with your photographer before your wedding. I include a shoot with every couple who books with me. Everyone is different – sometimes the most outgoing people become shy in front of a camera – and vice versa. When you do a shoot prior to the wedding with your photographer they have a chance to get to know you a bit more and learn the best way to get a natural look from you. You get to know them a bit more and see how they photograph. Ultimately, everyone becomes more comfortable and relaxed for the wedding day…and you’ll have fun too!
Rebecca Hansen: Relax! Don’t focus on the camera, just focus on your best friend.

Tell us a little bit about you.
Lara Kimmerer: Getting to know my couples before their wedding day is very important to me. I’m interested in learning about who they are individually, and as a couple – and hearing stories about their family and friends too. When I’m at their wedding I take with me all of the things I’ve learned about them and the stories I’ve heard and use it all when photographing. Knowing the context of certain relationships with friends and family helps me to see moments that otherwise may go unnoticed. These moments happen so very quickly and it’s my job to grab them before they pass.
Rebecca Hansen: We are NOT cheesy wedding photographers. Making photographs that feel authentic and genuine makes us happy. I love that we’re creating family heirlooms, things you’re going to have for generations. The couples that book us are relaxed, down to earth, go with the flow kind of people.
Kor Floral: Kor Floral is a unique floral design service focused on changing what brides expect from floral design. Kor Floral takes pride in working selectively with brides, which allow us to work intensively on every event. Our brides feel like they have a partner in their wedding design process. Kor Floral collaborates with brides from the first consultation to the ‘big day’, ensuring that the bride’s personality and taste is expressed. A high level of customer support and collaboration, coupled with Kor Floral’s ability to produce artistic floral pieces set us apart from your typical florist. New England brides who are interested in getting a bit more from their florist should consider contacting us!

Any favorite photo spots for engagement sessions or must see sightings?
Lara Kimmerer: Any place the couple feels connected to really. I did a shoot at the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookine, MA. The couple loves movies and they regularly hold movie showings at their home. Having their engagement session at an old art deco movie theatre was the perfect choice for them.
Rebecca Hansen: I don’t have any favorite spots, I try to go somewhere different every time, and somewhere that’s special and unique to each couple. Our goal is to tell our couple’s story and not just make “nice” pictures. We want them to mean something to our couples.

Any suggestions for transportation?
Lara Kimmerer: I’m a fan of interesting transportation – something beyond a limo. Renting a vintage vehicle (even an older boat if you’re on the water) makes for fantastic photos – and a fun ride to your wedding!

Cape Cod, MA:

  • Lovely! Does anyone know what dress the bride facing away from teh camera in Rebecca Hansen’s photo with the lovely sheer sleeves and back detail is?

  • Although this is a wonderful list of vendors, I do not feel that it represents all of Massachusetts. Massachusetts is more than just Boston, the Cape and Martha’s Vineyard. There is so much more to the state – in general and when it comes to weddings – west of Boston. I really hope that someday wedding blogs like Ruffled would showcase Central and Western Massachusetts.

    Sincerely,

    A lifelong Western Massachusetts resident

    • Jen,

As we mention in the title, this series is intended as a local resource guide and not a highlight on a certain state per se. The main areas we mention are broken down based on how many wedding professionals we are highlighting who are based out of such areas. So while they are all local to MA, we broke it a down a bit further since it’s a massive round up. They mostly travel statewide + nationwide. Towards the bottom we do list a recap with all recommended vendors from all areas within the state. Hope this clears up any confusion!
